New and Old World vultures are entirely unrelated. Found in the Americas, New World vultures, like the King vulture, are more closely related to storks. On the other side of the globe, Old World vultures are more closely related to hawks and eagles. Convergent evolution is responsible for these unrelated species appearing so similar.

- Densely forested, lowland tropic forests from southern Mexico to northern Argentina.
