The blue-crowned laughingthrush is one of the most critically endangered birds. They have experienced devastating declines due to habitat loss caused by human development and the illegal pet and wildlife trade.

- Forests along rivers and some Feng Shui forests planted in villages for cultural reasons in the Jiangxi Province of China.

There are less than 300 blue-crowned laughingthrush living in the wild. More than sixty zoos in the U.S., Europe, and Asia participate in a Global Species Management Plan, led by Riverbanks staff, to preserve this species.
